Mark your calendars and get your tickets for the 23rd annual South Side Slopes Step Trek on Saturday, October 7!! Registration is pay what you can, and everyone who registers gets digital maps and route narratives via email. Day-of registration will be in the UPMC Employee Parking Lot at 21st and Josephine Streets. Very cool t-shirts and hoodies are available for purchase. Visit southsideslopes.org/steptrek/ for info. Proceeds from StepTrek benefit the South Side Slopes Neighborhood Association, an all-volunteer group committed to improving this unique neighborhood.
And here’s a fun step trek fact (for those who have read this far): Did you know that then-Mayor Tom Murphy led a walking tour of the Slopes during the very first Step Trek? It’s true!
And don’t forget, city steps tours of the Northside are still happening at Threadbare Cider and Walk the Burgh! Learn more on the walking tours page.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? Grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
