Catalano Parklet, Spring Garden: Arcola Way & Spring Garden Avenue
Endings often provide an opening that allows us to keep building and growing if we choose to do so. The opportunities aren’t always apparent (because sometimes we’re looking the other way or adamantly keeping our eyes closed), but they’re there, loitering around on a street corner in the multiverse, waiting for us to come out of our self-induced fog and pay attention.
So, here I am at Catalano Parklet in Spring Garden, a block away from the Arcola Way city steps, and I’ve decided it’s time to direct a spotlight on the 215 official neighborhood parks we have in Pittsburgh. Almost all of these greenspaces contain city steps (a significant contributor to the 900+ flights on the city’s roster), and every single neighborhood has at least one, with several having many more.
In my walks around Pittsburgh over the last seven years, I’ve traveled past and through many parks but paid little attention to them. That, my friends, is about to change.
