City Steps of Pittsburgh: A History & Guide

City Steps of Pittsburgh: A History & Guide

May 18, 2024Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: East End, West End, South Side, North Side

City Steps of Pittsburgh: A History & GuideIf you love Pittsburgh’s city steps, you’re going to love this soon-to-be-released book! I am very excited to announce that the pre-order is now available on Amazon, and the book will be available on July 15. The preorder link is here: https://a.co/d/hKXmaWI.  Once published, the book will also be available at local bookstores (both chain and independent), and various sites throughout Western Pennsylvania, including museum gift shops and stores catering to Pittsburgh memorabilia and locally made goods.

City Steps of Pittsburgh: A History & Guide explores the history of the steps and the neighborhoods in which they were built. It also includes 13 guided walks and 20+ individual locations worthy of visiting—all with detailed descriptions, directions, and resources for creating your own urban hiking adventure. All areas of Pittsburgh are represented: north, south, east, and west. This is a new, modern-day version of a book about Pittsburgh’s steps that builds upon Bob Regan’s two previous books. We were thrilled when he agreed to write the foreword! Thanks to the creative mindset and boots-on-the-ground tenacity of Matt Jacob and the seemingly infinite resources of the City Photographer Collection, the book also includes 120 color and B&W photos, both new and historical. City Archivist Charles Succop was our primary researcher and fact-checker. The three of us have spent the last two years creating this book, and I’m so happy we’re close to reaching the final steps!

We are also very grateful to our publisher, Arcadia Publishing/The History Press, and everyone who helped make this book a reality. As we approach the publication date, keep an eye out for updates here and on our social media accounts. I’ll try my best to share all of the city steps-related events that get organized after the book comes out!
