Fineview Park & Playground, Fineview: 431 Fineview Avenue
The Fineview Park & Playground is small but mighty. Located between two neighborhood highlights, The Fineview Overlook and the massive Rising Main City steps, it’s a perfect stop when walking around or exploring the Fineview Fitness Trail. The park received an overhaul a few years ago, and with it came pickleball and basketball courts, an oval walking/running track, stationary fitness equipment, a small shelter with picnic tables, and a playground.
As neighborhood residents have a say in park renovations, it’s interesting to see which features are ultimately included. In this regard, city parks and playgrounds are similar to the city steps. Each location is unique and requires customization. Knowing this makes visiting parks and playgrounds an adventure because of the many different styles and preferences.
Fineview Playground has a feature I’ve not seen elsewhere: a large circular swing that’s part hammock, part inner tube. It’s a substantial size and relatively low to the ground. To my grown-up brain, it looks pretty relaxing! I have seen children playing on this swing in past walks around the area. Usually, two or three all piled on, laughing and trying (not trying) to fall off onto the padded surface below. It looked like a lot of fun to my inner-kid brain and made me a wee bit envious! The next time I walk through Fineview, I might have to stop by and take the relaxing hammock swing part for a test drive. The raucous flailing and falling to the ground part I’ll leave for the kids to enjoy!
