West End Healthy Active Living Center, West End: 80 Wabash Street
It was only a few short weeks ago that I was across the street visiting the Wabash Park and Playground (the one with the “mysterious” horseshoe pits), and now I’m back, looking over CitiPark’s Healthy Active Learning Center. It’s a Sunday afternoon, and all is quiet, but come Monday morning, activities start up again, and for the month of April, that has meant FREE western-style line-dancing classes every Wednesday at 5pm. Rumors have it they card at the door, so you’ll need to prove you’re 60+. 😉
There’s something about this that reminds me of my early adolescence when hanging out with friends after school was the norm. Talking and goofing around, eating Doritos, and trying to copy dance moves from popular MTV music videos. Always seriously silly.
I wouldn’t be surprised if HAL’s line dancers spent the idle hours of their youth learning the Hustle and the Bump, the Hully Gully, and all the other dances made popular on 1960s and 1970s TV shows. And just like in the bygone days, the fun times end early enough so everyone can get home before the streetlights come on.
