I’m super excited to announce that Pittsburgh-area nonprofit Venture Outdoors has organized a FANTASTIC series of city steps urban hikes. These adventures include north, south, east, and west sections of the city and feature several of the walks specifically created for the new city steps book, which will be published on July 15, 2024.
Venture Outdoors Age 50+ History Hikes
This series details the history of the Pittsburgh city steps and how they helped shape the industry and culture around the three rivers. I’ll be leading the tours, but there will also be “guest appearances” by City Archivist and researcher Charles Succop and Matt Jacob, who will talk about the strategies he used for photographing the stairs featured in our upcoming book City Steps of Pittsburgh: A History & Guide (The History Press). While breaks will be taken along the route, these urban hikes are designed for folks who are accustomed to the challenges of significant elevation gains. The skill level is moderate. Proper footwear is required. Dogs are allowed!
