Leolyn Park, Carrick: 1633 Leolyn Street

Leolyn Park, Carrick: 1633 Leolyn Street

Pittsburgh has 108 neighborhood parks, which means that, on average, each of the 90 neighborhoods has at least one. The attention a neighborhood park receives regarding amenities and maintenance is likely related to 311 complaints and residents’ engagement with their city councilor.

As hot weather is right around the corner, many folks are closely watching the on/off status of public drinking fountains in parks and playgrounds. Last year, news reports revealed that most of the fountains had not been turned on because the one plumber assigned to the job had other responsibilities that took precedence. Because of the bad press and the upcoming mayoral primary election, it was recently announced that FOUR plumbers are now addressing 170 drinking fountains. According to a recent article on WESA, they are also tasked with “taking notes” on the specific on/off requirements for each location.

Leolyn Park in Carrick has a drinking fountain, but it’s not turned on, and the condition of the apparatus is questionable at best. Will it be repaired and functional before the end of May? We’ll have to wait and see.
