Liberty Green Park, East Liberty

Liberty Green Park, East Liberty; Larimer Ave

Liberty Green Park, East Liberty: 100 Larimer Ave

I love looking at photos of playgrounds from 100+ years ago. Through today’s eyes, these play spaces look harsh, exposed, and dangerous. Dirt, stone, and scrub grass, nary a tree in sight, and equipment made of metal. Super tall slides, swings, and see-saws, and other forms of play that bring to mind broken arms and possibly worse.

The Liberty Green Park is relatively new, built in 2020 and designed to support the growing influx of people living in East Liberty and Larimer. It’s an attractive spot with a lot of flat, open land used for farmers’ markets, pop-up food vendors, flavored-ice carts in the warmer months, and year-round outdoor community events. There are paved walking paths, picnic tables and grills, a generous-sized tot-park, and an even larger playground. The highlight for me is the exceptionally tall and long tunnel slide. Might this be the biggest slide in the city? I think so! This one harkens back to the slides of auld lang syne, but with modern safety standards and materials that won’t leave you with a searing backside as you rocket down on that sunny summer day.
