List Street, Spring Hill-City View, Pittsburgh took place on August 14, 2022, and was published on September 1, 2022.
The world is changing, and we are invited to become part of the change. We can start by changing the way we look at change. We can commit to paying attention to what is happening around us and discerning the real from the unreal. We can acknowledge that what is directly under our noses is often the most difficult to see and then swap the rose-colored glasses for the prescription variety. Something new, unprecedented, and different is happening, and we can be a part of it. We can make it happen.
Field Notes: In early 2019 a landslide along List Street completely cut off access to six homes. While the city constructed new retaining walls and rebuilt the road, a set of wooded steps were built from Buente Street to List Street. The street reopened in 2020, and it’s uncertain how much use the stairs still get, but they do provide a lush and lovely view of the hillside landscape.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling.
