Ormsby Park and Playground, South Side Flats: 49 S. 22nd Street
The South Side Flats neighborhood has experienced continuous change since King George III granted John Ormsby the land in 1763. And to further that tradition, two long-standing, much-loved neighborhood parks, Ormsby and its “little sibling”, Armstrong, are scheduled for a substantial refresh next year.
Anyone can learn about this upcoming City-funded project, and lots more, by visiting EngagePGH (engage.pittsburghpa.gov). Searching for projects based on categories, such as Parks & Playgrounds, and by location is quick and easy—and you may be surprised by all the work currently underway or preparing to launch!
Change can be exciting, but it can also be anxiety-provoking, and taking a look at what lies ahead can help with both responses. The Ormsby & Armstrong EngagePGH page shows visuals of approved plans and shares community feedback. The loud and clear takeaway is that people LOVE Ormsby for its playground, pool, and close proximity to the community center and public library! This little corner of the South Side has come a long way since the days of the 22nd Street bridge, rail yards, and trolley barns. Many people are looking forward to this new version of a space they’ve enjoyed for many, many decades.
