Trip #102 Centre Avenue to Bryn Mawr Road, Upper Hill (Hill District), Pittsburgh took place on February 18, 2018, and was published on March 2, 2018.
When was the last time you were at an intersection and thought to yourself, “This is a moment I want to remember.” Probably never, right? Intersections. Literal or figurative, we don’t want to spend time at them. We want to move through. Often, when we’re at an intersection, we’re waiting. We’re waiting for the light to change. Waiting for someone else to make a move so we can make a move. Waiting for that next thing that will transport us someplace else. But moments remembered are moments that live on. What we choose to remember can stay with us for as long as we want. Will the only thing we remember about intersections be that we wanted the light to change?
Field Notes: Just a few small steps right at the intersection of Centre Ave. Bus stop. Cobblestones. Traffic. Even on a Sunday afternoon, it’s busy here!
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
