Trip #121 Upview Terrace to McCandless Avenue, Stanton Heights, Pittsburgh took place on April 1, 2018, and was published on April 16, 2018.
In a world with so much noise, so much static and chatter and sound, it’s hard not to follow the crowd and throw your voice into the collective scream. But I don’t want to yell and shout; I don’t want to preach or lecture. I want to be heard, and I want to be able to hear. I want to listen, and I want to be listened to. The seemingly never-ending bombardment of opinions, facts, figures, news, and information makes that so very challenging to do. I want to be able to hear the soft, quiet sounds, listen to the nuances and have a quiet time and place to comprehend what it means. What it means to you. What it means to me. Whether you’re on the top step or the bottom or somewhere in between, isn’t that what we all want?
Field Notes: Upview Terrace to McCandless Avenue is a straight-up/down flight of stairs! Reminded me a bit of the “Alfred Hitchcock” flight on Vinial Street in Troy Hill. What your footing – it’s a long and hard way down!
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
