Trip #126 Olivant Street, Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar, Pittsburgh took place on April 13, 2018, and was published on April 27, 2018.
When was the last time you explored the source of your thoughts? The good ones and the bad ones and the ones considered facts and truths? Thoughts might carry our voice, but underneath, you might catch the whisper of another. A family member, a coach, a friend, a foe, a co-worker, a person we heard on the bus, the TV or radio. Too often, it’s the voices of others who “teach” us who we are, and with close to a quarter of a million words in the English language, there are plenty of choices for people to use. But those words are not who we are, they simply describe someone else’s perceptions, and that’s not the same thing. When we figure out who’s influencing our private thoughts and the words we use, we can start to claim which of those are truly our own.
Field Notes: The street is a little rough, but the stairs are in good shape and the basketball court and ball field appear used and cared for. Good vibe here.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
