Trip #146 Woodland Avenue to Pitler Street, Marshall-Shadeland, Pittsburgh took place on May 25, 2018, and was published on June 13, 2018.
So many of us live in a state of manic panic. We drive fast, we eat fast. Voices and fists are rapid and raised and the surrounding sounds reach deafening levels. We get caught up, swept up, wrapped up and before we know it we’re all running full steam ahead like a freight train charging down the track, horns blaring, steel wheels shrieking. When we’re in this place it feels like there are no brakes, no way to stop until the smash and crash. Speed like that can be fatal. Speed like that kills all of us.
Field Notes: I visited here on a Friday early evening and the Polaroid was totally misbehaving! Had to waste half a pack of film (dead battery??) and start over. Beyond that, it was a fun little flight on a street that was gearing up for the Friday night of Memorial Day weekend.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
