Trip #149 Ireland Way, Marshall-Shadeland, Pittsburgh took place on June 9, 2018, and was published on June 20, 2018.
Have you ever been in a situation where you really wanted to do something but couldn’t seem to find the time for it? Each day offers a limited number of minutes, so if there’s something you want to add to your life, you need to re-allocate because empty blocks of time aren’t going to miraculously appear. Making time is rarely easy and it often means giving up some long-standing habits, but changing one behavior can lead to changing another behavior, and so on and so on, and before you know it, you’re not really missing the time you used to spend on those other things because you’re enjoying that awesome new thing you’ve been trying to FIND the time for!
Field Notes: This flight is connected to #148 but it’s completely overgrown and hidden from view. The guy who lives in the house near it came out to chat and told me there had been a bunch of houses the flight led to but that they had burned down / been demolished years ago.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
