Trip #150 Wadlow Street to Shadeland Avenue, Marshall-Shadeland, Pittsburgh took place on June 9, 2018, and was published on June 22, 2018.
Why is it we can recall failures more readily than successes? I’ve recently been looking at life events I’ve considered “failures” and re-tracing what happened in the weeks, months and years following. In all instances, the road I traveled following failure was one with opportunities and experiences and developing new skills and ways of thinking. All of these events were successes in their own right, and they show how regardless of what happens, it is always possible to begin again and create something new for yourself. The memory of failure may be loud and noisy in our memory but the quiet persistence of success is there as well – we just need to listen to it.
Field Notes: Sidewalk steps that go up several blocks. Some sections are old, some are new. There are two colors for the railings too! This section looks new and well cared for.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
