Trip #155 Concord Street to Itin Street, Spring Garden, Pittsburgh took place on June 23, 2018, and was published on July 4, 2018.
It can be hard work to make sense of what’s happening in the world. And on some days, it can even be downright scary. Complex thoughts and feelings aren’t always easy to say out loud, but paper (or a digital equivalent) is always willing to listen. It’s there to take in those half-baked philosophies, thoughtful ruminations and “what if” schemes. Picking up a pen or pencil or marker and scribbling away gives you the time to get it all out, in whatever way works for you, without interruption or disruption. In paper’s quiet review, we’re given the opportunity to see flaws, factual errors, and ludicrous vomitus that a more charitable sounding-board (your cat, best friend, or drinking buddy) might let slide. Paper is waiting, and it wants you to start working through what’s going on in the world.
Field Notes: This is a short sidewalk flight near the Fire Station in Spring Garden. Very close to flight #156!
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
