Trip #159 Wyandotte Street, Crawford Roberts, Pittsburgh took place on July 5, 2018, and was published on July 13, 2018.
Imagination is a powerful tool because it has the ability to transform the unreal into the real. The images and scenes we create in our imagination can help sustain our hope for better days ahead. With imagination, we can see the path that brings us to where we need or want to be – even when the reality in front of our eyes is obscured. Whether our path involves a safe trip down to the bus stop or traveling up and above the temptations of hopelessness, imagination offers a ray of light to pierce through the shadows in our minds and on our streets.
Field Notes: This is a pretty beleaguered area. Lots of boarded up buildings, trash in the street and empty lots, and overgrown knotweed on the stairs. But the Jubilee Kitchen is on the street, so that provides a little bit of hope.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
