Trip #16 LaPorte Street, Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar, Pittsburgh took place on July 9, 2017, and was published on August 9, 2017.
There’s a refrigerator on the porch, and it reminds me of summer when we were kids, sitting outside all day long. Time felt so open, open so wide that boredom could easily set in. We were always searching for something, searching for a distraction, entertainment, trouble, anything really, to make the hours move faster.

And now I wish the days would stand still. It’s all such a blur, just like those long-ago memories of sucking on popsicles while the grown-ups drank beer. But even as time eats away at what was once so unforgettable, in my mind, we’ll always be running through the grass, sitting on the steps, waiting for something to happen.
Field Notes: LaPorte Street features another little wooden flight in an area with a few arts and crafts style bungalows (of which several were boarded up). Verona is also a red-brick street!
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
