Trip #160 Neeb Street, Greenfield, Pittsburgh took place on July 9, 2018, and was published on July 16, 2018.
Even when we feel hard, bitter, and angry, there is always a way to return to compassion. How to do that might not be obvious, the path might be as delicate as a spider’s web or as hazy as a dandelion puff, but that bit of softness is there, even when it’s buried deep beneath pain and sadness. Somewhere, there is a thread that leads back to a kind and loving connection with others. Find it. Follow it. Let it teach you how to live and give again.
Field Notes: Nice to be back in Greenfield! For some reason, it reminds me of the neighborhood scene in “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” 🙂 Neeb Street has a cement flight that is across the street from the wooden one I wrote about on Trip #128 Nantasket Street.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
