Trip #162 McCaslin Street to Bryson Way, Greenfield, Pittsburgh took place on July 9, 2018, and was published on July 20, 2018.
There’s a particular beauty found in the small things that often escape our eyes. Recently, I’ve become fascinated with this idea and decided that for the next year of the mis.steps project, I’m going to search for “small beginnings” at every stairway I visit. Think of it as a macro photo of a micro piece of the stairs. I’ll still be taking Polaroids and photos of my chalk tags, but this new photo series feels like a fun way to look very, very, very closely and carefully at the space I’m traveling through. I’m not sure what (if anything) I’ll do with these images, but be sure to visit the Flickr album or Instagram feed to see the big little details!
Field Notes: From where I sit, I can see the Cathedral of Learning building! And I can also hear all of the traffic from the highway below. But, it’s still a quiet little spot right off the main road in Greenfield.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
