Trip #163 Greenfield Avenue to Blanton Street, Greenfield, Pittsburgh took place on July 16, 2018, and was published on July 23, 2018.
Remember Transformers? You know, the toy that shifted its parts around and “transformed” from an ordinary object into a robotic superhero (or supervillain)? If you think about, all of us are Transformers because we’re also “More Than Meets The Eye”. We all have miraculous, unique gifts that have the power to turn the forgotten, the ordinary, the unseen, into something vibrant and electric and alive. What kind of Transformer are you? Can you make flowers grow in a concrete jungle? Heal a broken leg or a broken heart? Turn rusted metal into shiny gems? The power is there, waiting for us to discover and use it.
Field Notes: Greenfield Avenue to Blanton Street features a long flight across the street from the Magee playground and pool. It was a warm day when I visited and the sounds of kids playing rose up the stairs.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
