Trip #168 Ronald Street, Greenfield, Pittsburgh

August 3, 2018Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Greenfield

Trip #168 Ronald Street, Greenfield, Pittsburgh took place on July 23, 2018, and was published on August 3, 2018.

Humans are like containers. We want to enclose and preserve ourselves, our ideas, and the people and things around us. Perhaps, this makes us feel secure, in-control, or comfortable. If you think about it, the EARTH, the WORLD in which we live, is a giant container – but it’s a container without a lid. Go outside and look up. There’s no roof, no box top, cap or covering designed to keep you in. Go outside and look up. Imagine yourself in a helicopter or an airplane or a rocket. You’re in a space without end, without limits. The next time you’re feeling uncomfortable in your comfortable container, go outside and look up. The next time you think you’ve gone as far as you can go, go outside and look up. Not even the sky is the limit.

Field Notes: This is an area with old stairs (these, that go right into a parking lot) and then new stairs that were built for the playground just a stone’s throw away.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
