Trip #170 Alvin Street to Greenfield Avenue, Greenfield, Pittsburgh took place on July 28, 2018, and was published on August 8, 2018.
Some things we can’t change, or can’t change easily, but we can change our mind. Knowing this can happen gives us power – it affirms our role in how we experience the world and the place we inhabit. Too often, our mind is a critical, negative, or apathetic foe instead of an encouraging friend, an ally, a go-to source of strength and motivation. It’s time for us to step up and make a change in our individual and collective mindset, we can create a world where we are supported, accepted and loved. It’s possible and we need to believe that a change will happen – one mind at a time.
Field Notes: Half of these sidewalk steps are well cared for – and then the “line of demarcation” appears! The other half has a fair amount of weeds and plants growing up and around.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
