Trip #184 Eddington Street, Hazelwood, Pittsburgh took place on September 3, 2018, and was published on September 10, 2018.
Even when it feels like the journey will never end, that the hard work will never end, you have to keep going. But for a moment, take a break. Take rest. Look up. Look down. Close your eyes. And when you’re ready, bring yourself back to the present and take another step, another action. Defiant hope is what brought us here; it’s traveled with us through every point in history as far back as we can see. It’s the fuel for tenacity and ensures we will still be here, hoping and working, walking and taking action, tomorrow and every day that follows.
Field Notes: The flight is closed and in looking up, there’s some serious decay that has happened. It’s too bad – such a long flight would have been quite impressive (back in the day).
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
