Trip #203 Brosville Road to Lehrman Way, Southside Slopes, Pittsburgh took place on October 14, 2018, and was published on October 24, 2018.
Some photos capture a well-defined point in time – think about those memorable images from your childhood or teenage years and the hairstyles and clothing and the other small details that were frozen forever in an instant. But with other photos, time is ambiguous. Does a photo of the sky taken this morning look very different from a morning sky in 2000? in 1990? We don’t always know what time it is. And many times, we don’t need to know, we just need to look and see and let our minds and memories wander. Not unlike what we do when we come across our personal photos from bygone days.
Field Notes: A very long flight of sidewalk steps that lead up to the church and retreat center at the monastery.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
