Trip #218 Josephine Street to Mission Street, Southside Slopes, Pittsburgh took place on October 30, 2018, and was published on November 30, 2018.
Suppose you’re on a game show and given the choice of three doors. Behind one door is a BRAND NEW CAR!!! But behind the other two doors are zombies (who will most likely come lumbering after you). You pick door #1 and the game show host, who knows what’s behind the other doors, opens door #3, which releases a slow-moving zombie. The host quickly says, “Do you want to stay with your initial choice or go with door number two?” Is it to your advantage to switch your choice? Pick well, and you zoom off to safety (in style), pick not so well… and, well, we’ve all watched at least a few episodes of The Walking Dead, so we know what happens next. #montyhallproblem #probability #zombies
Field Notes: Sidewalk stairs that lead up to the trip #217 flight and connect Josephine Street to Mission Street. This door leads to the roof of a building that is built into the base of the hill.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
