Berg Street to Codben Street Southside Slopes Pittsburgh Trip 222

December 10, 2018Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Southside Slopes

Trip #222 Berg Street to Codben Street, Southside Slopes, Pittsburgh took place on November 22, 2018, and was published on December 10, 2018.

We change whether we want to, mean to, or like to. Sometimes change happens for better, sometimes for worse, and sometimes it’s a wash. No living creature stays the same throughout its lifespan and neither can we. That’s why we don’t expect the clothes we had when we were 12 to fit when we’re 25 or 35 or 45. But why then do we often long to be the person we were years ago, months ago, days ago? Our ability to go back in time is akin to fitting into that favorite t-shirt you had in 6th grade. Even if you could fit into it, you might not like how it looks on “the you” of today.

Field Notes: I love it when a street has stairs on both sides and so many on the Southside Slopes do! The side with the postal hold box has fallen prey to gravity and erosion and is rather uneven and sunken but the other side is in decent shape.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
