Josephine Street to Leticoe Street Southside Slopes Trip 258

March 8, 2019Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Southside Slopes

Trip #258 Josephine Street to Leticoe Street, Southside Slopes, Pittsburgh took place on February 23, 2019, and was published on March 8, 2019.

The concept of home is so very personal, and our realities and dreams about it offer a window into who we are and where we want to be. From an urban rowhouse to a country farmhouse, a cabin in the woods or a mansion in an exotic locale, we all crave a place that is our own, regardless of how lavish or humble it may be. And once we have that, a place, a space, that allows us to be our unique selves – what a joy! As Jane Austen wrote in Emma, “There’s nothing like staying at home for real comfort.” I have to agree!

Field Notes: I love these narrow little streets that are all the Southside Slopes – reminds me of the small towns and villages in Europe (Italy especially!). Strangely, this street that connects Josephine to Leticoe is not one way!! But it’s only a block long so putting it into reverse isn’t impossible. 🙂

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
