Trip #267 Andover Terrace to Bryn Mawr Road, Upper Hill took place on March 23, 2019, and was published on March 29, 2019.
A tool doesn’t have to be electrified, motorized, or high-tech to be useful. The end goal of a tool is to reduce the amount of effort required to get work done, to help the user of the tool achieve a result they might not be able to accomplish on their own. A useful tool is a tool most appropriate for the task that needs to be performed. On this short but steep drop-off from Bryn Mawr to Andover, these few city steps add an almost imperceptible bit of useful ease, and if you’re passing by in a car (as many people do), you might not even know they are here.
Field Notes: This super tiny sidewalk corner flight is kind of hidden – you don’t see it very well unless you’re on Andover Terrace.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
