5th Avenue to Wilkins Avenue Squirrel Hill North Trip 269

April 3, 2019Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Squirrel Hill North, Shadyside

Trip #269 5th Avenue to Wilkins Avenue, Squirrel Hill North took place on March 24, 2019, and was published on April 3, 2019.

These days, it feels like we live in a world of Top 10 Best Of lists and photoshopped faces and bodies. Anything less than perfection disappoints – or does it? Just as contrived appearances skew our perception of reality, our encounters with the unadulterated world provide information to better interpret the superficial layers. When we look closely at both the real and the unreal, we see that their forms and functions blend, and one isn’t necessarily better or worse than the other.

Field Notes: This small flight is located right at a major intersection on 5th Ave. There’s also a bus stop located here so there seems to be a never-ending stream of people and vehicles.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
