Morningside to Duffield Morningside Trip 280

April 29, 2019Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Morningside, Stanton Heights

Trip #280 Morningside Avenue to Duffield Street, Morningside took place on April 18, 2019, and was published on April 29, 2019.

Ambitions frequently outstrip reality – and vice versa.
And that’s a-ok.
The stairs connecting Morningside Avenue to Duffield Street are never going to be spoken about in the hushed and revered tones used to describe Rising Main Way (Fineview, 331 steps) or the Rialto Street stairs (a.k.a. “Pig Hill”). The neighborhood association will not be planning an exercise-focused walking tour featuring these two steps as a major attraction. But the reality is that this duo looks quite lovely just as they are. Pretty turquoise railings pop against the red brick street and the sunny yellow of dandelions dot the lush green grass. Your ambitions and your reality don’t have to be grand, majestic or impressive to make a statement. If you’re comfortable and secure with who you are and where you are, the beautiful you will shine through.

Field Notes: Such a cute little “flight” at the corner of Morningside and Duffield. The Duffield side of the intersection is paved with red bricks and they look so striking against the turquoise blue railings.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
