Lappe Lane Spring Hill City View Trip 293

May 31, 2019Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Spring Garden, Spring Hill-City View

Trip #293 Lappe Lane, Spring Hill – City View took place on May 11, 2019, and was published on May 31, 2019.

In this short-attention-span world, details often go in one eye/ear/hand and out the other with nary an impression. Too often, my ability to remember a person’s name, an unfamiliar exercise move or an ingredient needed at the grocery store fails because I wasn’t paying close attention. When this happens, I tell myself that if I want to remember the important stuff, I need to stop multi-tasking, doing whatever-whatever on my phone, or getting distracted by the outside world (a cute dog! an incredible tree! rain! sun! clouds!). Despite my repeated fails, when I succeed in staying present and attentive, I’m pleasantly surprised by what sticks in my brain. The stairs at Lappe Lane in Spring Hill-City View command my attention, and the reward is 100% worth it! It’s unlikely I’ll ever forget its striking beauty (or the labor required to climb up and down all 222 steps…).

Field Notes: I’ve gone up and down this flight so many times because of the Stair Steppin’ tours at Threadbare Cider, but it never ceases to give me a thrill when I look at it. One of my favorites!

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
