Trip #296 Graib Street to Henderson Street, Fineview took place on May 19, 2019, and was published on June 7, 2019.
This flight of stairs connecting Graib and Henderson in Fineview is trip #296 and the final entry for the latest “Mis.Steps: Our Missed Connections with Pittsburgh’s City Steps” book (due out in July, stay tuned!). The visit to this quiet flight took place on a warm, early-summer day, and it was a perfect way to complete this current series of 76 stairs. Crossing paths with the newly appointed Graib Street council representative was a bonus (everyone who’s someone takes the stairs these days), as was taking a seat to offer an obligatory back scratch. We live in a time filled with so many choices for how to spend our day, and that abundance can be paralyzing. Where and when to begin? Despite the confusion, begin anyway. Despite the uncertainty, begin anywhere. Just begin. The adventure will follow!
Field Notes: A fascinating flight in Fineview features some sort of red metal arbor at the very top and a series of walkways and connecting stairs winding their way down the hill.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
