Trip #305 Biggs Avenue, Fineview, took place on June 14, 2019, and was published on June 28, 2019.
At some point in our lives, we suffer through the experience of being betrayed, unceremoniously kicked to the curb, or told our presence is without value. These painful situations arise from our family, those we had considered friends, a workplace, or the world at large, but the result is the same: questions of self-worth, a sense of hopelessness and doubt, and a mind filled with anger and sadness. That dark path seems like it never ends, but the time comes when we can emerge into daylight. We can heal, and we can regain our strength and happiness because we’re resilient and persistent creatures. We can acknowledge a defeat without becoming a defeated person.
Field Notes: The Biggs Avenue stairs are part of the Fineview trail and they’re very cute! There’s also a “free library” box about halfway up. It’s a nice walk for sure!
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
