Hunnel Street Spring Hill City View Trip 308

July 5, 2019Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Spring Hill-City View

Trip #308 Hunnel Street, Spring Hill-City View, took place on June 22, 2019, and was published on July 5, 2019.

The good people of Pittsburgh know all about rain and humidity levels that keep us in a state of perpetual dampness, but we also know how to enjoy the sun when it makes an appearance! The next time you reach for those rarely used sunglasses, spread out the old blanket in the grass at the neighborhood park, or snag the last outside table at your favorite watering hole, revel in all that is joyful and good and put aside the heavy thoughts of grey skies and low-hanging clouds. Time keeps moving on, and so does the weather, so whether a day is sunny or cloudy, dry-ish or damp-er, make the most of it because soon enough, we’ll be back to winter!

Field Notes: This is a “paper street” where Hunnel is actually a flight of stairs. One section is leaning a little bit but the rest is still solidly upright. I wonder if the 1990 build date was actually a re-build of a pre-existing flight.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
