Leister St to Hunnel St Spring Hill City View Trip 309

July 8, 2019Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Spring Hill-City View

Trip #309 Leister Street to Hunnel Street, Spring Hill-City View, took place on June 22, 2019, and was published on July 8, 2019.

Whether it’s literal or figurative, the road we travel is often steep, and the load placed upon us is frequently heavy. Sometimes, most times, our responsibilities are too much to handle alone – even when we’re feeling strong and invincible. Enlisting a friend or trusted partner to help carry the weight isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s the best way to ensure we reach our destination without damage or injury, it’s the best way to ensure that when the new day comes, we can pick up where we left off and keep going. We’re stronger when we travel together. We’re stronger when we share what’s weighing us down.

Field notes: This is a long wooden sidewalk flight that connects Leister Street to the Hunnel Street stairs. It provides a good alternative to the steep street. The bottom end appears to have been backed into / run into by vehicles! The bottom step is missing. 🙂

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
