Trip #320 Irwin Avenue, Perry South, took place on July 18, 2019, and was published on August 2, 2019.
This weekend, put your heart and soul into something that’s important to you and keep at it until you’re satisfied with your progress. The results don’t have to be perfect, they don’t even have to be good! What’s key is that you’re working and learning. When your energy is focused, and you apply yourself, you’ll stay on track with making your dreams a reality. The journey you’re undertaking may be long and steep, but in time, you will reach the top. Take a moment to envision that view and how you’ll enjoy reminiscing about the journey and all the adventures it brought you. Your effort will make that happen.
Field notes: Melrose is another Belgian block street that intersects the Irwin Avenue stairs. Looks like it was a densely packed place at one time but now there’s so little traffic that grass is growing between the blocks! It does make the street look pretty through.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
