Langley Avenue Perry South Trip 328

August 21, 2019Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Perry South

Trip #328 Langley Avenue, Perry South, took place on July 28, 2019, and was published on August 21, 2019.

Remember how easy it was to expresses enthusiasm when you were a kid? Remember those animated conversations with friends about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Wacky Packs, Pokémon, or whatever it was that utterly consumed your existence? Why do we stop having those kinds of interactions when we become adults (perhaps replacing them with heated debates about politics and policies) and brush our self-labeled “geeky” interests under the rug? Life has way more meaning and fun when you share your passions, so get out there and let the world know what you think is really freakin’ cool. Chances are, you’ll discover lots of other folks who feel the same way. And BTW, when it comes to enthusiastically animated and totally geeked-out conversations about city steps (as in, check out how they constructed the railing on this flight!), I’m your person. 😉

Field Notes: This flight connects the upper and lower sections of Langley Avenue. This flight has CRAZY looking railings! I’ve never seen this style on city steps before and it kind of sort of looks like an ad hoc “we don’t have the right pieces” kind of workaround! 🙂

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
