Trip #338 Rosetta Street, Garfield, took place on August 17, 2019, and was published on September 16, 2019.
Forces beyond our control can hold up progress or require us to put plans on hold. Getting upset during these moments, while tempting, only results in generating more frustration and rarely solves anything. Instead, try to look at the situation from a variety of angles. Is there another path you can take? Is there something useful you can do with the time you’ve been given? When you stop pounding on a locked door and take a look through the open window that’s next to it, you might be pleasantly surprised by what you discover or realize.
Field Notes: On this section of Rosetta Street in Garfield, the sidewalk is raised above street level and short flights go up to each house. Some are well maintained and others are overgrown – probably indicating if the house is occupied or not.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
