Trip #345 Ella Street, Bloomfield, took place on September 15, 2019, and was published on October 2, 2019.
TRY TRY TRY is painted on the stairs ascending Ella Street in Bloomfield. It’s not the longest or steepest flight in the city, but at almost 100 steps it requires some tenacity. Stick with it though, because when you persevere through hardship and avoid the temptation to give up, you’ll be rewarded by the sense of accomplishment when you reach the top. Whatever challenge you might be facing today, remember to stand up, pick up your feet, raise your head, and TRY TRY TRY. All the best long and winding journeys begin with a leap of faith and end in victory. Victory is always within your reach!
Field Notes: These are the “famous” TRY stairs that I often see photos of! Glad to finally make it here to see them for myself. Another cantilevered beauty that rises above this infrequently driven on street.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
