Trip #35 Dobson Street to Herron Avenue, Polish Hill, Pittsburgh

September 22, 2017Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Polish Hill

Trip #35 Dobson Street to Herron Avenue, Polish Hill, Pittsburgh took place on September 16, 2017, and was published on September 22, 2017.

It feels like summer’s returned and the purple morning glories are growing again, glowing again, with radiance. I love this time of year. The weather turns back and forth, forth and back, cold then hot, windy then humid. The uncertainty is exciting, keeps me in a state of anticipation. What’s next? Will there be more? I want a taste of what’s to come and a taste of the glorious past. ~
The fleece gets stuffed into the backpack, and my skin welcomes the warm, damp air. I know this won’t last much longer, I know you’re soon going away, but I’m going to enjoy every last minute, every fucking living-breathing second with you while I still can.

Field Notes: The 53 count comes when you go all the way from Dobson to Herron. The book entry indicates Fleetwood, but that’s not even halfway. The morning glories looked lovely – the perfect sight for a summery-feeling Saturday morning!

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
