Wapello Street Brighton Heights Trip 372

December 6, 2019Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Brighton Heights

Trip #372 Wapello Street, Brighton Heights, Pittsburgh took place on November 14, 2019, and was published on December 6, 2019.

It’s important to set personal boundaries and exert control over them. For those of us who come from a people-pleasing place, learning how to say “No” (and mean it, and stick to it) is a strength-building exercise. Like learning to lift weights or do push-ups, asserting power over your choices, your time, and your life becomes easier with time and practice. Establishing boundaries isn’t about retracting from your life; it’s about protracting yourself into a future you want to create. Lengthening, expanding, and creating a circle around you that’s filled with what you love and cherish most.

Field Notes: Flight in a quiet, residential section of the Brighton Heights neighborhood with larger homes and nicely kept yards. There was a man working on clearing leaves from his front yard and I felt as if he was eying me suspiciously. Maybe he was. Maybe it was my imagination. I also spotted a Pittsburgh Protractor! Most of these are found in Oakland and the East End – maybe the artist was up in Brighton Heights visiting family? The Wapello Street area is pretty residential.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
