Trip #375 Caramel Way, Middle Hill, Pittsburgh took place on November 15, 2019, and was published on December 13, 2019.
Into each life, some rain must fall, but when you’re getting tired of dampness chilling you to the core, the temptation to accept any sunny solution can be strong, overpoweringly strong. It’s not that you shouldn’t listen to suggestions from trusted friends, just stay attuned to your inner compass, and follow the path that’s right for you – even if it means another day of soggy socks. When we give in to the urge to immediately wipe away our unhappiness or have others solve our problems, we’re often settling for less. Perhaps an umbrella will do the trick.
Field Notes: Sad state of affairs around the Caramel Way flight in the Middle Hill. So much open space and many of the houses are boarded up. At least it appears the city (or someone) came through and knocked back the weeds so the stairway was passable.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
