Trip #379 Courtright Street to Wing Way, Marshall-Shadeland, Pittsburgh took place on November 17, 2019, and was published on December 23, 2019.
It’s important to know when you need to go the extra mile. But it’s just as important to know when you need to slow down and take a rest. Making time to disconnect from the busy-ness of the material world and re-connect with the quiet, inner world alleviates fatigue and replenishes your mental and physical energy. Go ahead and give it a try. Turn off your phone, shut down the laptop, and get yourself to a favorite location. Whether it’s a comfy chair or a special place outside, let your shoulders relax and feel your breath slowing down. Everything else can wait. This present is all yours to enjoy.
Field Notes: This is a connecting sidewalk flight off of Wing Way (see Trip #151). The sidewalk connects to a few houses that now have a narrow road in the back of them. But, I wonder if back in 1950 when this was constructed it they were “orphan houses” that only had stair access. I guess a look at one of the older historical maps would answer that question… 🙂
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
