Lenox Street Perry South Trip 383

January 6, 2020Laura ZurowskiFiled Under: Perry South

Trip #383 Lenox Street, Perry South, Pittsburgh took place on December 22, 2019, and was published on January 6, 2020.

Every day we walk our unique path. The scenery, terrain, and weather conditions surrounding that path change from day to day, year to year, decade to decade. Everything around us changes, including ourselves, but the path is always there. Some years it’s clear and secure; other years, it’s totally obscured. Path? What path? During those days, it feels like nothing but fences, other people’s trash, and landslides. But the path is still there. It will come back, and you will see it. If not today, maybe tomorrow, or the tomorrow after that. Every day, something changes.

Field Notes: If it wasn’t the winter season, this one would be all overgrown. The stairs are still walkable but there isn’t a path to Lenox Street anymore. At the top of this flight, there are fences and quite a bit of erosion.

Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!

See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.

Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
