Trip #391 Tretow Street to Watson Blvd, Perry North, Pittsburgh took place on December 25, 2019, and was published on January 24, 2020.
Pause for a moment and direct your attention to your senses. Focus on what you’re seeing. Not just the big things in your immediate view, intentionally search out some smaller details. Then notice what you smell and hear, and how you respond to these scents and sounds. Don’t forget to check in with your skin and mouth! What we eat and wear dramatically impacts how we feel. When we tune-in to our senses, the mind, and its never-ending stream of commands, requests, and fantasies become quieter. Into that space, the parts of the body we often ignore finally get a have their say.
Field Notes: This three-step segment is made out of slabs of stone. Granite? Not sure, but a segment of the sidewalk nearby is also made from the same rock. Very pretty even if it’s a bit careworn.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
