Trip #393 Woodsdale Way, Perry North, Pittsburgh took place on December 26, 2019, and was published on January 29, 2020.
Despite her loud and repeated assertions of “They’re very friendly!” all I’m thinking about is how to get the three little dogs (the kind celebrities use to carry around in handbags) away from my legs. While they may be small, they are mighty and kicking up one hell of a ruckus. Their owner, who appears to be about 12 and wearing Christmas-themed pajamas, isn’t wielding any sort of authority. Fortunately, she’s wise beyond her years and already hip to the fact that carrots often work better than sticks. In short order, the shaking sounds of tantalizing treats fill the air, and twelve tiny legs race across the grass honing in on their new target. I’m not interested in seeing what act two of this short attention span theatre performance brings, so I make a hasty retreat before the intermission is over.
Field Notes: These wooden stairs run through the side and back of a house and then deposit into a driveway up on Perryview. My guess is that the property lines have changed a little since they were installed in 1950.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
