Trip #397 Groyne Street, Perry North, Pittsburgh took place on January 24, 2020, and was published on February 7, 2020.
Find joy in a moment that goes well, a moment that brings you happiness, pride, or satisfaction. For moments that do not go well, make a conscious decision to accept that you are not feeling happiness, pride, or satisfaction. There’s no need to ruminate or judge yourself for whatever failings you perceive. Simply let it go. Both the joy and the not-joy are in the past. You get to choose which influences you in the present.
Field Notes: This was a flight I needed to email Bob Regan about as “Groyne Street” is no longer listed on Google Maps or the PGH city map. Miraculously, he remembered (or has notes he dug up) and directed me to Venture Street. Sure enough, there’s still a street sign for a short, dead-end named Groyne but it’s mainly used as a parking lot these days. The house at the top is now connected to Owenton Street but back it the day it must have been an “orphan” house that needed the stairs to access.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
