Trip #409 Roosevelt Ave to Bascom Street, Perry North, Pittsburgh took place on February 15, 2020, and was published on March 6, 2020.
Focusing your attention on the grandeur of a broad landscape can summon up feelings of amazement, inspiration, or awe. But those same feelings can also be stirred by witnessing the smallest bits that comprise the whole: the new leaves of a crocus pushing out of the ground, the buoyant movements of a branch capturing spring winds, or the songs of birds and their energetic flashes of color as they move between the two. Reminding us that it’s what fills the space between above and below that creates the landscape of our lives.
Field Notes: I guess this flight that connects Roosevelt to Bascom was here when Bob Regan visited in the early 00s but by 2007 (first image on Google Street View) it was gone. However, Street View shows that a new version appeared in 2017.
Want to visit these stairs? You can locate them on the Pittsburgh City Steps Plan website!
See the Risograph print of this photo and story in the Mis.Steps Shop.
Be a good neighbor! Have you visited these stairs and found them in poor condition or that illegal dumping (large items like tires, old furniture, and construction debris) and trash were abundant in the area? There are two things you can do to take action and make our city steps cleaner and safer for everyone! First, grab a photo if you can, and submit a report to Pittsburgh 311. All problems, both broken stairs, and railings, as well as trash and dumping, should be reported to the city. You can easily do this online or by calling. If the location has an abundance of illegal dumping and trash, also contact Allegheny Cleanways, letting them know the location and the nature of the garbage. Thank you!!
